Student Learning Area The student learning area is your learning hub for all of the courses that you are enrolled onto. Once you enroll onto a course you will automatically become registered on to the student learning area, your username is your email address that you use during the booking process. You will receive an email to this email address confirming your enrollment, along with a password for your account. The password is a randomly generated password, and we would recommend that you copy and paste it when using it. Once you have received this email you can login and update your personal information, we would also recommend that you change your password to something more memorable. Be aware that if you change your email address it will also change your username that you use to login. It is important that you keep your information up to date and ensure the spelling of your name is correct as this is what will be put onto your certification. Replacement certificate are available at a cost of £5.
Online Learning An important difference of our courses is that the theory aspect of the course is completed online. This enable you to start your training straight away, and you should allow 2 -3 hours for this aspect of your course, but take your time and enjoy your learning. Within your student area you will find all the learning materials you need to complete the theory section of your course. When you are confident, please complete the online test. We do require you to complete the online test a couple of days prior to the start date of the course, this allows time for certification. Late submission of your test could hold up your course certification. Even once your course is completed you will still have access to your learning area and the learning material, so please feel free to revisit your learning materials at anytime.
Once you have completed the test you will have an instant result and you will also receive an email with a more in-depth result. We would recommend looking through this email before moving on to the next test or retaking the test. The pass mark for all the tests are 75%, you are able to retake the test, Kent School of Beauty will also receive a confirmation email of every attempt.
Practical Session During the courses you will normally give and receive treatments. This enables you to feel what it is like to have the treatment performed on you and acts as secondary demonstration. With this in mind, you will need to prepare yourself for the treatments, please refer to the client preparation guidance in the handbooks. This is also a good learning exercise, this method demonstrates what you need to tell your client before they attend their session.
If for any reason you do not wish to have a treatment performed on yourself, you can bring a model with you but please keep us informed of your choice. Unlike other companies we do not cancel courses because of low numbers. In the rare occasion that you are the only student booked on to the course we will ask you to bring a model or offer to rebook you onto another date.
If you are enrolled onto the Acrylic or Gel Nail course you will need a model for the afternoon sessions and for the 2 day courses this needs to be the same model. If you are unable to find a model we do have trainer hands available, but we would recommend training with a model as this is more realistic, but please keep us informed of your choice.
Models Students learn best if they perform and receive treatments. It reinforces learning and by experiencing the treatment you know how it feels ie massage pressure. If you have any contra-indications, then you will be required to bring a model (however, please note your model may be practised on by other students as well.) If models are staying for lunch then a £5 charge is applicable and can be paid on the day. Acrylic and gel complete nail courses require you to bring a model (see acrylic and gel complete course information.)
Waxing and Threading Students will be practising on each other so please have a minimum of two weeks hair growth since shaving or four weeks since waxing. The areas you will be practising on are half or full leg, underarm, bikini, eyebrow and top lip. For threading we will be practising on the arm and then shaping an eyebrow and threading top lip.
Manicure and Pedicure Please do not wear any type of nail extension or overlay for this course. Students will be practising on each other. If you arrive with nail extensions or overlays you may be refused training for that day, and a rebooking charge may apply.
Spray Tanning and Manual Tanning Students will be practising on each other so please prepare your skin for the tan according to the instructions in the handbook.
Eyelash and Brow Tinting and Eyelash Perming Students are required to have a patch test at least 24 hours prior to the training. This can be carried out at a local salon or the kit can be purchased directly from us and mixed up according to the instructions. You will be signing on the day to confirm that you have had a patch test and no reaction occurred. Without this confirmation you will not be able to carry on with the training that day.
Acrylic Complete and Gel Complete Courses Students need to bring a model to each session (this needs to be the same model.) The model needs to arrive at 1pm on each day. A full set of nail extensions will be applied on the first session and infills will be carried out on the second session. Therefore models need to be able to commit to having the nails on for the full two weeks. Alternatively trainer hands can be used (although these are not a realistic substitute.)
Acrylic and Gel Conversion Courses No model is needed for this course. Ideally students will practise on each other, performing different treatments on each nail, including toe nails if available. Alternatively trainer hands can be used for the conversion courses.
Nail Art Course Students do not require a model for this session; they will either practise on each other or a trainer hand.
Cancelation/Rebooking Please refer to our policies page.
Tests These are completed online. Please ensure they are completed
before the date of the course. They are an important part of the learning and mean that we can start at a practical stage rather than a theory stage when starting the course. This is how we can reduce the length of our courses and make them more convenient for you. If tests are not completed before the course date then a £5 postage charge will apply for postage of certificates
How to Find Us Our learning centre is in the grounds of Astor College for the Arts in Dover (big yellow building). Here is our post code for your sat nav CT17 0AS but you might be better using the road name as well “Astor Avenue”. We have found that the sat navs can sometimes lead you astray as you approach the end of the journey, so here’s a
map to help, ignore the A. You will see on the satellite view of the Google map that there is a long building and tarmac tennis courts, below these you will see a red roofed building. If you drive up towards the school from the main road, please take the first left into a side car park. You need to park here and then walk down the side of the tennis courts along the gravel drive heading towards some independent units (these are black and white). Our learning centre is on the rear right hand side of this building, please note the gravel drive way on the Google map. Here is another
map that will help you find the entrance to Astor College for the Arts. You can also use the "directions" button to get detail directions from your home address to our
On weekdays there should be someone on the gate to guide you, but please take our phone number so you call us if you have any problems. We do now include a light buffet lunch within the course fees for full day courses or when you have 2 ½ day courses running back to back. Your model is more than welcome to join us for lunch. There is a £5 charge for this and you would need to inform Vicky on arrival so she can tell the caterers the correct numbers for the light buffet.
We would also recommend that you print this page and take it with you to help with directions.
