Q: Are your Diploma courses accredited? Yes, all our Diploma courses are approved and accredited by The Guild of Beauty Therapists, which means you can obtain insurance once successfully completed. This insurance allows you to legally trade and work within these areas.
Q: When do I get my certificate? As long as you have completed the online section of your course, you will ge given your certificate at the end of the practial session.
Q: What is the review day and do I have to attend? The review day is optional, to book a review please contact the office on 01233 732170. The revew day is designed to offer you on going support and guidance. You would need to attend with a model, and you would carry out a treatment on your model. Your tutor would oversee the treatment and offer you advice on how to improve.

Q: Where are you based? We are based in Dover, Kent and Uckfield Sussex. Please see the maps on the location pages.
Q: Do I need to bring anything with me? No. All equipment will be supplied on the course. Refreshments are included during your course, along with a light lunch for full day courses.
Q: What happens if I don't complete the test before the end of the course? This is not a problem. We do need the test to be completed before we can issue your certificate. Just complete the test when you can and we would notify you when the certificate is ready to be picked up. We can also post it to you, at a cost of £5 (please arrange this with your tutor).
Q: Do I need to bring a model? Some courses require you to bring a model at some point during the course. If you are unable to find a model please let us know, and we may be able to find one for you through our associated salon.
Q: Do I need to have any previous experience/qualifications? No. You don’t need any previous experience or qualifications at all. We work right from basics. However, as we are working with small classes, if you have experience it will not hinder you either.
Q: What times are the courses? The course times do vary and are available day time and evenings, all the times are on the course timetable page of the website.
Q: How do I book the course? Just add the course and date of your choice to your basket and work through the payment process. You can add multiple courses to your basket.
Q: How do I pay for the course? A £49 deposit is required at the time of booking. This will hold your place. The balance of the course will be automatically taken 2 weeks before the start date.
The easiest way to pay is through the website, but we also take credit and debit card payments over the phone or by bank transfer to our bank account. Please contact us for details if you wish to make a bank transfer.
Q: What is the student area? The student area contains all your course learning materials. It means that the time spent in the class room can be spent on practical studies, and the theory can be carried out in your own time, at your leisure before the start of the course. There is a short multi-choice test to complete this ensures that you have understood the theory. The pass mark is 75%, but don’t worry if you don’t achieve that. You can retake the test. You will receive an immediate result, plus a more detailed result by email. We would recommend reading the result email before attempting the test again. The student area also includes all the legal documentation relevant to your chosen course, such as The Data Protection Act. You can also access your invoices, make extra payments and change your bank details.
Q: Does my access to the student area cease once I have completed the course? No. You have lifelong access to the student area for your chosen course. So you can refresh your memory at any time. You can also ring your tutor even when you have finished training for any further advice. We constantly update our learning materials, so instead of having a handbook that will go out of date, just log in to your student area and see the latest up to date information on the courses you have completed.
Q: What if I miss a session? Please see our
policies page on the website.
Q: How will my special dietary requirements affect the light buffet lunch? Please liaise with your tutor as soon as you arrive, they will order the buffet just after you arrive and at this stage we can advise the caterers of your needs.
Q: Can my model have the light buffet lunch? Yes that is not a problem. We charge £5 for the buffet lunch for guests. Your model would need to join us for the lunch time break and you would need to inform your tutor on arrival of their requirements.
Q: What age do I have to be to train with Star Beauty Schools? You need to be at least 16 years of age to train with us. We are able sometimes to train students under that age, but they will not be able to obtain insurance until they are 16.
Q:Do you recommend an insurance company? Yes, we recommend the Guild of Beauty Therapists and on successful completion of the course will give you a £10 off voucher for insurance.
Q: I am having trouble logging in to the student area. The username to the student area will be the email address you gave us when you registered (unless you have changed it since). Your password would have been sent in an email when you registered. It is a random selection of numbers and we therefore recommend that you copy and paste this rather than trying to type it in. Once in the student area the password can be changed under account management. If you have forgotten your password please go to request new password, enter your email address and click request. Please only click this once, as the password will be sent by email, but there may be a delay. If the request is clicked more than once, more than one password will come through and it will start to become confusing as to which is the correct one.
Q: How do the payment plans work? When you get to the payment section of the website you have either the option of paying for your course in full, or paying a £49 deposit and the balance as either one or more payments. The full balance of the course needs to be paid for by at least two weeks prior to the start date of the course.
If the £49 deposit is paid then the system is automatically set up to take the balance of the payment one month from the date of the deposit payment. If you do not want to pay the balance in one go and would like to spread the payments over more months then you need to telephone or email us to arrange this. As long as the balance is paid two weeks before the start date of the course we are happy to take the payments over as many months as required.
For example booking an Swedish Massage course at £174, the deposit would be £49 leaving a balance of £125, which will automatically be taken one month from the date of the deposit, or if agreed could be taken as two payments of £62.50 as long as the balance was paid at least two weeks before the start date of the course. The same system works for the professional beauty diploma.
To pay for the professional beauty diploma using the payment plan, choose the deposit option when paying, then telephone us to arrange how much you would like us to take each month, the amount is completely up to you. If you don't telephone us then the full balance will be taken a month from the date of paying the deposit. As you are not entering into a credit agreement and there are no credit checks the equivalent value of each course must be paid before attending for example: You pay £49 deposit and then agree to pay £100 per month (for example). After the first month's payment you could book spray tanning as this course is £62.50+vat (£75.00), but you wouldn't be able to book Swedish Massage £145+vat (174) until after the third monthly payment. You would then finish paying £799+vat but still have courses to take. This is an example. You choose how much you want to pay per month.
Q: I have booked the professional beauty diploma. How do I book on the individual courses that I have chosen? You can't book the individual courses online as the system will expect payment for them. When you have booked the professional beauty diploma, then either ring or email us to book onto each individual course up to your total credit amount. Look through the dates for the courses you have chosen and drop us a line with your preferred dates.
