FAQs

Are your Diploma courses accredited?

Yes, all our Diploma courses are approved and accredited by The Guild of Beauty Therapists, CPD and/or ABT, which means you can obtain insurance once successfully completed. This insurance allows you to work on members of the public within your chosen therapy.

When do I get my certificate?

You will receive an e-certificate at the end of the course.  This will be available on your student login.  The course is in two parts:  one part is the practical (on the day), the other is the theory which is completed prior to the course.  Login to your student learning area and read through the handbook that is available for your course and complete the online quiz (if applicable for that course).  The theory can be completed after the course, however the certificate cannot be made available until both parts are done.  If you would like a printed certificate then that can be printed and posted out to you after the course and costs £7.50 per certificate.  This can be ordered any time after the course, but as you have constant access to your online certificate, there’s no more losing your certificate or needing to scan it in or photograph it to send it off digitally to insurance companies etc.

What is the review day and do I have to attend?

The review day is optional, to book a review please contact the office on 01233 732170. The review day is designed to offer you ongoing support and guidance. We offer free refreshers/review days on all our courses that you have taken previously with us.  You book by letting us know the date of a course you would like to attend from those listed on the website at the centre you previously attended.  We will run that course if at least one other person books.  So, as long as at least one other person books, then you can attend the course.  We require at least two weeks notice if you wish to change the date, otherwise you lose your right to the free refreshers.  Although the refresher courses are free, we do ask for a £45 deposit, refundable on attendance on the day agreed or if you give us at least two weeks notice you can’t attend, or if the course doesn’t run.

Do I have to buy a kit from you?

No, there is no need to purchase any kits from us to complete your course. All equipment and consumables are includes in your course fees. We purely offer kits to enable you to begin trading within these disciplines.  We are non product biased so can give you impartial advice on equipment you may wish to purchase or already own.

Where are you based?

We are based in Hamstreet, Kent.  There are great transport links with a train station (Ham Street) just one stop from Ashford International station.  Bus routes.  We are also close to the M20.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

All equipment for use during the course will be supplied. Refreshments are included free of charge. Please bring lunch with you for the day courses or you can purchase lunch if there is a cafe/shop nearby.

What happens if I don't complete the test before the end of the course?

This is not a problem. We do need the test to be completed before we can issue your certificate. Just complete the test when you can.  You will have access to your e-certificate on completion of both the practical and theory elements.

Do I need to bring a model?

Generally no you don’t.  On most courses you will give and receive a treatment as we feel students learn best this way.  If you can’t have the treatment performed for some reason you will be required to bring a model (please inform the training centre first).  If you end up being the only student then we will contact you and give you the option of brining a model or changing the date, we don’t cancel due to low numbers.  There are exceptions to this, please check on the relevant course page.  If you are unable to find a model please let us know, and we may be able to find one for you through our associated salons.

Do I need to have any previous experience/qualifications?

No. You don’t need any previous experience or qualifications at all. We work right from basics. However, as we are working with small classes, if you have experience it will not hinder you either.  Specific courses require you to have previous qualifications eg Stone Massage requires a Swedish Massage or similar qualification. Please check the relevant course page for details.

What times are the courses?

The course times do vary and are available day time and evenings, all the times are on the course timetable page of the website.  All timings are subject to change, we will always try to start your course on time, however finish times are subject to student knowledge, numbers etc so may be variable, our stated finish times are a guide.

How do I book the course?

Just add the course and date of your choice to your basket and work through the payment process. You can add multiple courses to your basket.  If you are booking for more than one person you will need to complete a separate booking for each person with a separate email address to set up the student learning area.

How do I pay for the course?

A £49 deposit is required at the time of booking. This will hold your place. The balance is due at least two weeks prior to the course.

The easiest way to pay is through the website, but we also take credit and debit card payments over the phone or by bank transfer to our bank account.   Please contact us for details if you wish to make a bank transfer.

What is the student area?

The student area contains all your course learning materials. It means that the time spent in the class room can be spent on practical studies, and the theory can be carried out in your own time, at your leisure before the start of the course. There is a short multi-choice test to complete this ensures that you have understood the theory. The pass mark is 75%, but don’t worry if you don’t achieve that. You can retake the test up to three times.

Does my access to the student area cease once I have completed the course?

No. You have lifelong access to the student area for your chosen course. So you can refresh your memory at any time. You can also ring your tutor even when you have finished training for any further advice.  We constantly update our learning materials, so instead of having a handbook that will go out of date just log in to your student area and see the latest up to date information on the courses you have completed.

What if I miss a session?

Please see our policies page on the website.

What age do I have to be to train with Star Beauty Schools?

You need to be at least 16 years of age to train with us.  We are able sometimes to train students under that age, but they will not be able to obtain insurance until they are 16.

Do you recommend an insurance company?

Yes, we recommend the Guild of Beauty Therapists, ABT or Insync and on successful completion of the course will give you a £10 off voucher for insurance (for the Guild).

I am having trouble logging in to the student area.

The username to the student area will be the email address you gave us when you registered (unless you have changed it since). Your password would have been set up by you on enrolling. Once in the student area the password can be changed.  If you have forgotten your password please go to request new password, enter your email address and click request.  Please only click this once, as the password will be sent by email, but there may be a delay.  If the request is clicked more than once, more than one password will come through and it will start to become confusing as to which is the correct one.  Always check your spam/junk folders for emails, as they often go there.

I haven't received an email confirming my booking?

Our emails often go to the spam or junk folder initially.  To check confirmation of a booking, just log in to your student area and you can see all the courses you are booked on, click on these to open the learning materials for each course. If you can’t remember the password, then you can request a new one on the log in page, but please be aware that it will go to the same place the previous one did (usually the spam folder), if you are still struggling then please email vicky@starbeautyschools.co.uk from the email you are trying to log in with.  We can then check the email address is correct and any emails that go back to you, including any new passwords, usually go into your inbox rather than spam.  By having all your courses in one student area, you can refer back to previous learning materials any time you choose.
